My first Sewing project!

Gorgeous sunny day and spent the best part of the afternoon in Costco! Lol it was my first ever shop there and I was blown away by the deals. I managed to get several bargains on beauty products including a multi pack of my fave roll-on and a massive bottle of Neutrogena anti residue shampoo, its the simple things in life! Hubby was suitably bored by the second aisle but I managed to convince him of the benefits of bulk buying (even though we currently live in a 2 bed flat lol) and that all the walking and pushing of the trolley constituted a healthy Cardio work out. I totally forgot however that we lived on the third floor and even though there is an elevator, carrying all those things in was no easy task!

Two cups of tea and a raspberry turnover later (so much for healthy eating) I decided to set about sewing my first ever grown up project. Apart from a few sewing classes when I was 12, I have little to no experience with a needle and thread let alone a fully fledged sewing machine, so yes I was nervous. I figured I would start small and work my way up to becoming a world renowned seamstress for Balcenciaga (a girl can dream!).
So what better place to start then turning a dress I've hardly worn to a skirt. I've always loved the idea of recycling items in my wardrobe by revamping them, adding a few custom details giving the look a whole new twist. Admittedly in the past time was a big factor, and often it was simply easier to  just buy new clothes (hence needing 3 wardrobes to house all my clothes at one point...not my finest moment). But since time is something I currently have plenty of I've decided to embrace the potential it has to offer.....I'd love to hear anyone else's DIY sewing projects, and how they panned out!

A rather unattractive grey lace dress

I cut across to separate the skirt and bodice

I folded over and hemmed the excess material

I sewed the ends of the zipper so it wouldn't slide open and folded inwards and  hemmed.

A few of my Costco beauty bargains!
